The Pride Lands

When I was younger, I felt like @lionking was the best movie ever created. There was something about the messages in the movie always stayed with me for life. For example; Simba's life journey of discovering who he really as a king, resonated with me heavily and inspired me to write an essay about it.

Even with the second movie and understanding how Nala struggled to accept herself with her family were shielding her, as well as falling in love with someone who was outside of her circle and allowing them to see what she sees in them.

These movies are worth watching at different aspects of your life to help you understand life in new ways. I've watched them when I was younger, as a teen and now as an adult and each time I understand myself more and more.

Now let's fast forward to 20 years later and I feel it’s my duty to watch the remake and hopefully it will inspire the new generation like it did for me.

Jungle Week

With that in mind, I set myself a creative challenge of dressing up in jungle inspired outfits for the whole week.

Here are the highlights of the best looks;

Remake Review

Film Rating: 6.5/10

 After watching the film last weekend, I've given it a 6.5/10 for the effort made to the film. I understand that no one can ever make a film like that. But I felt it came down to the casting wasn't quite right. Here are a few examples of what I mean;

  • Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons in the 1994 original version. But in the remake Chiwetel Ejiofo made his character much darker and less Whitty and making him less "villian like". He was supposed to be the charcater that everyone dislikes at the end of the movie. But I didn't feel that way after watching it.

  • The Hyeenas (Shenzi, Banzai and Ed)  voiced by Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Jim Cummings in the original movie. These 3 were the jokers of the film and I still refer to their banter like comedy. Whereas in the new version,  Florence Kasumba, Eric Andre and Keegan Michael- Key didn't quite have the same energy, due to the lack of scenes they had in the movie. If they had more scenes, it would have worked out better.

  • Timon and Pumba voiced by Ernie Sabella and Billy Eichner in the original movie, now voiced by Seth Rogan and Nathan Lane, tried to bring the same energy as the original and I will give them credit for that, needed a bit more work.

What I will say is JD Mcray as baby simba nailed it! I felt as though I went back in time to when I was a kid watching The Lion King for the very first time. His acting and vocals were on point, same with everyone else.

In conclusion, nothing will ever beat the remake of the lion king. But it's worth watching if you are a fan and drawing up your own conclusion from the film and understanding which parts of the film will stay with you forever.

I AM A FASHION STYLIST

Sunday 14 July 2019

For the last year and half, I have been working in LOVISA, a global fashion jewelry store and it has been such an amazing experience.

 It has allowed to share my fashion knowledge with customers everyday, as well understanding how to run a succcessful store and first hand management skills. From this I was able to grow and still grow in the company. Within one year, I went from working part time (4hours a week) to becoming an assistant manager in Bristol.

On this journey and as a creative I feel its important to express yourself in your own way.
So with that in mind, I would wake up morning and dress how I feel. Whether it was based off my mood, or if I was listening to a certain song or got inspired by a certain look I saw try to recreate it.

THE PROCESS

Initially I would start by creating a vision board, so I could get a feel of how the outfit would come together.

Then I would move on to sourcing the right look. This would require me going online, heading to different retailers and then looking in vintage stores as well.

The last part is  the fun part of putting the look together and documenting each look.

I hope this inspires you to create your own looks or recreate the ones you admire and kill it in public!
That’s the best way to stand out
