Wow what a year it has been and I have barely blogged about!
My apologies to those who have followed my journey. I have tried to live in the moment and document it and then reflect on it. But I guess I waited a year to do so.
I will do my best to blog about each moment after it happens from now on.
So to heres quick rundown of how things went last year;
January- April
- I started off the year getting an art space inside The Plot on Union street, which has now become my artistic sanctuary for all of my projects.
- Then not only did I host the DBI Grand BAME GALA with friend, I also won the Trailblazer award (Given to a young and inspirational young person from grass root growth) and sold a few pieces from my most recent art collection; Soul-ection.
- I ended up leaving my post at Lovisa to travel to Saudi Arabia for Ramadan & Eid with the family and then join DBI Team as their Social Media and Engagement Officer on a part-time basis
May- August
- After starting my new job at DBI, which took up a chunk of my time, I was able to attend the Alicia Keys Concert in Birmingham and happened to be the first day of the tour! This was defiantly memorable moment, as I designed a jacket for her during the pandemic in 2020 and also had The BBC One Show share it with her on live tv! ( **YES! She has seen it and would like to meet me one day, the real question is when??)
- From end of March- August , I was blessed to be commissioned to do my first Mural; Funkify on Union Street for the whole of Plymouth to see! The inspiration for it was one of my old art pieces, which I only took a small piece of it and blew it up to. 10 metre mural and I even had aerial dances on it. at one point!
September- December
- After created Funkify , I received a lot of great feedback and future collaborations including working with a local school; Mayflower Academy , who wanted me to create something similar with their students, which was very fun to do!
- Right after that, I was working hard with DBI for our Black History Month in October. During this month, we hosted 35 events in the month; weekly movie night, food demonstrations and work out sessions and a cultural day to wrap it up.
- I even attended the screening of The Colour Purple at Theatre Royal Plymouth and had the cast sing me happy birthday.
- Finally to end the year off, I travelled to Dubai to visit family and most importantly to attend Sole DXB again, where I got to watch Ari Lennox, Anik Khan and not only did I watch Aminé perform, but I got to meet him and gift him some artwork too!
So over all, it has been quite an eventful year and I am thankful for it all! I can only imagine how this year will be. I plan to make it more exciting then last year, only because I turn 30!! ( ** YES! This girl right here, who has been on and off blogging, creating artworks, working at DBI and travelling is turning a whole 30 and boy do I have some big plans for that, which I will make sure to share it on here)
