The Kandake

Sunday 4 August 2019

( Images from Tayeb Hijo, Eddy Omr, Boutique Denana, and various Sudanese artists/photographers.)

The Kandake means "great woman", a royal term given to the leader of Meroe and the Kingdom of Kush, which we now know it as "Sudan".

I never understood what it meant and I didn't understand that my name has great power of being named after the country of Azza (Sudan).

As a creative, I have the power to uphold this meaning as well as being a Nubian queen in a new way.
